Level 1 Music
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms J. Lee.
In this Level 1 Music course, students will establish a solid foundation in music through Performance, Composition, Theory, and Music Technology. You will enhance your solo and group performance skills on your primary instrument or voice, develop your music theory and listening abilities, use a Digital Audio Workstation such as Soundtrap or Bandlab, and create an original composition. Success in NCEA Music requires regular lessons with an instrumental or vocal teacher, either at school or externally. Additionally, you will have multiple opportunities to perform throughout the year.
Course Overview
Term 1
1.1 Use Music Skills in a Music Style
Students will learn characteristics of Hip hop and use aural skills to re-create a song on a Digital Audio Workstation.
Students will also begin work on their group performance.
Term 2
1.2 Demonstrate Music Performance Skills
Students will continue to receive lessons on their instrument, and be assessed on their group and solo performance.
Term 3
1.4 Shape music ideas to create an original composition
Students will create an original song either on live instruments, or on a Digital Audio Workstation.
Term 4
Students will continue instrumental/vocal lessons as well as develop knowledge in theory to prepare for Level 2 Music course.
Prerequisites
If you have not taken Y10 Music, or have not had instrumental lessons before, you need to have an interview with HOD.

Total Credits Available: 15 credits.
